President William Ruto has mourned former Attorney General Paul Kihara Kariuki, describing him as an accomplished jurist whose contribution to Kenya's legal and judicial institutions will remain significant.
In a condolence message issued on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, the President recognised Kihara's distinguished career in public service, particularly his leadership roles within the Judiciary and the Office of the Attorney General.
Ruto singled out the late jurist's contribution as the founding director of the Judiciary Training Institute, where he helped establish a foundation for the professional development of judicial officers.
"We shall remember Justice Kihara as an accomplished jurist and dedicated public servant, who made an invaluable contribution to the development and strengthening of Kenya's legal and judicial institutions," Ruto stated.
The Head of State noted that Kihara's contribution extended beyond his judicial responsibilities, highlighting his involvement in building institutions that support the administration of justice.
"His distinguished service included his role as the founding director of the Judiciary Training Institute, where he helped shape the professional development of Kenya's judicial officers," he added.
Kihara previously served as President of the Court of Appeal before his appointment as Attorney General in February 2018. He held the position until October 2022, when he handed over following the formation of President Ruto's administration.
The President also extended his condolences to the family, friends and professional colleagues of the deceased, acknowledging the loss of a senior figure in Kenya's legal fraternity.
"On my behalf and on behalf of the people of Kenya, I convey our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. We stand with them in mourning this great loss and honouring a life of distinguished service to our nation," Ruto said.
He concluded his message by offering prayers for the bereaved family as they come to terms with the loss.
"May the Almighty God grant his family strength, comfort and peace during this difficult time," the President stated.
Kihara's career spanned private legal practice, judicial leadership and public service, including his involvement in strengthening professional training within Kenya's Judiciary.
